The Event Of The Year Has Begun...

Royal Ascot 2019

The Event Starts from today Tuesday 18th June 2019 until Saturday 22nd June 2019. Most importantly Ladies day is Thursday 20th June 2019.

The Royal Ascot is a major event in the British social calendar, and press coverage of the attendees and their attire often exceeds coverage of the actual racing. Royal Ascot is the centerpiece of Ascot's year and dates back to 1911 when the week of races in the third week of June became a Royal Week. At 2pm of each day at Royal Ascot, the Royal Landaus led by four Windsor Greys, approach along the famous straight mile. Since 1825 this spectacular journey has signaled the start of the royal meeting.

There are four enclosures attended by guests on Royal Ascot week

  • Royal Enclosure
  • Queen Anne Enclosure
  • Village Enclosure
  • Windsor Enclosure

How Race-day dressing has evolved from mid 1920s- 90s

“The races have long acted as a showcase for women to parade their most treasured dresses and finery.”

While trends may change year after year, the dress codes remains traditional- hems must be no shorter than knee-length, shoulders should be mostly covered and of course a fascinator or 'hatinator'. To celebrate the start of this year’s Royal Ascot, here’s a timeline of some of the trends in race day fashion from mid 1920s to 1990s.

"If you're feeling bold, start with your hat. Find something you love and that flatters your face - both colouring and shape - and build your outfit from there. "

A Style Guide

At Different races, there are various prizes that are presented to the women who are voted the best dressed on the day and through research I found out that some women have been gifted cars! Through researching about Ladies's Day I also found a style guide on the Royal Ascot website that has been put together to allow women, and men as well, to get a better insight into how they can possibly dress for the day.

“Ascot continues to recognise key trends in the ever-evolving world of fashion and in 2019 monochrome dressing, statement bows and tailoring for women are some of the spring/summer fashion highlights for the coming season. For gentlemen, mixed textures and bold colours come to the forefront of formal wear.”
