Fashion Months Most Iconic... Part 2

Fashion Months Most Iconic... Part 2

Fashion Months Most Iconic... Part 2

Fashion Month this year has turned out some iconic moments for the industry, that I think we’ll be remembering for many years to come. If you read our blog post last week, you’ll know we started sharing a few of our favourite highlights, that had us remembering why we love fashion so much. Keep reading to find out what else occurred during the industries busiest and boldest time of year.

Dior

As guests gathered around hundreds of floating candles and fire pits, seating themselves under the stars of the Moroccan night, an ambience of culture appreciation and craftsmanship filled the air at the Dior Resort show. The jet-set label traveled to one of its most stunning locations yet, Marrakech. As a city that is symbolic of textiles, pottery and Jewellery, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated with several African artists for the fashion houses 113-look “Common Ground” collection. With the help of African tailors, designers, artists and manufacturers, Chiuri also tapped into the expertise of African fashion and textile anthropologist, Anne Grosfilley, to construct a well-informed show. Yet the surprise of the night was in the hands of none other than Diana Ross. Adorned in a sparking gown, the legendary artist concluded the collection performing serval hits ending the evening on a celebratory note and, well, lots of sparkle too.

The Blonds

The Blonds Speaking of sparkle - The Blonds designer duo label who always put together more of a performance than a traditional catwalk, completely outdone themselves with their custom adaptation of broadways Moulin Rouge. With theatrics engrained into the brands DNA, The Blonds always know how to put on a show. In 2018 their Disney Villains collection featuring voguing models really turned heads, but this years musical extravaganza is really something else. As guests excitedly waited in their seats at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, once the curtain lifted as far as I’m concerted the rest of NY Fashion Week was left in the dust. Paris Hilton is a reoccurring cameo of the brand that never gets old and while her showgirl entrance standing on an Eiffel Tower prop is really something to see, it was of course Billy Porter’s rendition of Lady Marmalade that left us picking our jaws up off the floor. Where Porter goes, we expect a show and he delivered.

Paris Fashion Week

Paris, always the backdrop for all things lavish, concluded this years fashionable festivities with all the bells and whistles - literally. From Baleniaga’s show stopping bell-bottom metallic gowns, to Pat McGrath’s viral make-up on Adut Akech for Valentino and, of course, YSL’s reoccurring catwalk location that sits at the foot of the sparkling Eiffel Tower. Paris knows exactly how to create a magical fashion juncture. Yet the moment on everyone’s lips was one of spontaneity! Chanel, hosting their catwalk in the Grand Palais, saw their models strolling across a faux-rooftop setting, raising their audience up into Parisian heavens where British Vogue noted that they “Could almost wave at Karl.” But heads turned from appreciating creative director’s, Virginie Viard, collection when her 83 look-collection saw a surprising last minute addition. A French Youtuber jumped the set, dressed in full homage to Coco Chanel herself, joining the finale where Gigi Hadid escorted her off the runway. Whilst this might not be what Viard had in mind when presenting a collection that symbolises new beginnings and stepping out of her mentors and ex-creative directors shadow. Nonetheless, it sent the show viral and adds another memorable notch onto her (Chanel) belt. Who’s complaining?

After Fashion Month we really might need time to recoup and take a moment to digest. A whirlwind of creative and jaw-dropping moments need to be appreciated before we move onto the next. The fashion industry is such a fast paced environment so it’s important to pause and acknowledge the fantastic worth ethic and drive that has gone into these colossal concepts and productions. Bravo, Fashion Month we cannot give you anything less than a standing ovation.
